Impact Statistics
The impact of wildlife crime is devastating to Oregon and its local communities. According to statistics provided by the OSP:
- In 2024 alone, nearly 5,000 animals were poached in Oregon.
- Most poaching crimes go undetected or unreported.
The consequences of poaching also include lost recreation opportunities, decreased conservation revenues, increased enforcement costs, and the implementation of more stringent regulations.

Fish
153 salmon/steelhead, 134 ground fish, 632 warm water fish, 135 trout, 6 sturgeon and 2 halibut were poached in Oregon in 2023.
Shellfish
2573 clams, 450 crabs and 449 other shellfish/invertebrates were poached in Oregon in 2023.
Mammals
172 deer, 137 elk, 12 bears, 6 antelopes, 32 furbearers, 7 cougars and 8 wolves, 3 Bighorn sheep were poached in Oregon in 2023.
Birds
47 upland game birds and 104 migratory game birds were poached in Oregon in 2023.
